ตามที่เมื่อวันที่ 7 กันยายน 2554 เครื่องบินโดยสารซึ่งมีนักกีฬาฮ็อกกี้น้ำแข็งทีม Lokomotiv Yaroslavl แห่งเมือง Yaroslavl ได้ประสบอุบัติเหตุตกที่เมือง Yaroslavl (ห่างจากกรุงมอสโกประมาณ 250 กม.) ทำให้มีผู้เสียชีวิต อย่างน้อย 45 คน ซึ่งเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวถือเป็นการสูญเสียบุคลากรด้านการกีฬาที่สำคัญของรัส เซีย
ในการนี้ นายกรัฐมนตรี และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจต่อเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าว ดังนี้

I have learned with profound sadness of the tragic air crash in the city of Yaroslavl on 7 September 2011, which claimed at least 45 lives of passengers and crews, especially many of which belonged to the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team. This is indeed a great loss for the world of sport.
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I wish to express my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, and through you, to the bereaved families of the victims.
